Green Funeral Options

Green funeral options provides our families with a natural, ‘green’ way to have a funeral service by offering families a selection of meaningful, environmentally-sustainable services and products.

Having a green funeral is becoming increasingly important for the many people who live their lives in a more environmentally conscious manner. People not only want to live greener lives, they now also want to be environmentally sensitive when they leave this world too.

At France Family Funerals we support your environmental ethos and can help you create a more personal farewell by providing options to reduce the impact of a funeral and leave a smaller footprint behind.
Eco - Coffin or Casket
Having a greener funeral starts with your choice of coffin. You need to be sure that, whatever coffin you choose, the environmental impact is lower than more traditional options.

We now offer an expanded choice of eco-coffins, all made to strong environmental standards, from certified traditional pine to picture-laminated Eco board; and natural wool-covered cardboard to hand-woven willow.

Green Service Options
  • Cremation Services: When a cremation is performed, the presence of oxygen in the cremation chamber means that all of the carbon present, including in the coffin and all it contains, is converted to carbon dioxide. This compares very favourably to burials, where without the presence of oxygen the carbon in the coffin and all it contains converts into methane, a green house gas with 25 times the environmental impact of carbon dioxide.
  • Natural Burial: Currently in the Hunter Region this is only available at Lake Macquarie Memorial Park. More information.
  • Mortuary Care: Of course, if you select a green funeral, we will not use any chemicals in the preparation of your body.
Your Green Legacy
  • A Living Memorial: We can arrange for all your funeral attendees to receive a young tree or shrub. We can also put you in touch with various organisations who hold public tree plantings.
  • Online Memorial: Save the trees and go digital. Rather than printing a guest book and service records, place all your funeral details, photos and videos on our HeavenAddress site.
  • Carbon Credits: We can purchase carbon credits to off-set the energy used in performing the funeral - vehicle transport and cremation process.
  • A Lasting Legacy: Make provision in your will for proceeds to go to CarbonNeutral or another environmentally sensitive organisation.
